Keeping Print Alive At Houchen Bindery Ltd.

Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. I have always used this date every year to take time to see where I’m at for the year, and see what I need to do moving forward. With an election season ahead of us, I am sure it will be exciting. I will be out in Colorado this week visiting some print customers and also celebrating 4th of July. I wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day.

There have been so many warnings about “Print is Dead”, “books are done”, etc, etc. I can see how it might be easy to believe these statements. I remember being told this in a very matter of fact manner by a German cab driver as I attended my very first Frankfurt Book Fair in 1994. He told me I had at best, two more years of making books, then it would be all over due to electronic media. Here it is July of 2012 and guess what? Our business is on the upswing and print is still very alive over here. Go figure! :-)

If you are lucky enough to visit our bindery in Utica, you will see stacks and stacks of textbooks being re-bound from schools all over the country. Amongst all of this you will also see pallets and pallets of edition binding work for printers from a variety of locations throughout mid America. Print is very alive over here!

Lastly, if you are looking for a creative way to help any of the people in Colorado who have lost everything recently in the wild fires, here is a site to check out. This was shared by some friends on Twitter recently at Alphagraphics.
